UPDATED: 10 September 2009
Hello and welcome to my web site.
The State Government is continuing to cause grief to Maroondah. The social housing development that was being proposed for Larissa Avenue, Ringwood (across Maroondah Highway from Ringwood Lake), has now been approved by Justin Madden, the Minister for Planning and Development. The 9 storey development lacks amongst other things, creative flair, sufficient car parking and will look like some of the old Housing Commission Flats of inner suburban Melbourne - the same type of social housing that is currently being demolished in inner suburbs.
Unfortunately this development bi-passed your concerns to us (as you local representatives) and has been approved with
- a lack of car parking (about 1 parking space for every two apartments) - obviously people who live in social housing don’t drive cars! - or have visitors that drive cars because there are only going to be 4 vistors parking spaces for the entire building.
- no provision for a private contractor to collect waste from the building in one hit - what does that mean - well, ejoy seeing 90 wheelie bins out the front each week and 180 wheelie bins (when the recycling is collected) every fortnight
As a Council we are united on this issue and we shall continue the fight to get this development to be a better asset for the community.
I’ll keep you posted!
